Describe your website.
My website is designed to give people the basic know-how to get up and running on eBay. Everything you need to get started from opening an eBay account and a Paypal account to buying and listing your first item for sale. There is an interactive page where users can share their experiences and read tips, comments and ask questions of more experienced eBay users.
My goal is to have this be the 'go to' place for beginners on eBay, and I hope to achieve this by presenting clean, clear and simple information.
Who is the target audience for your website?
This website is for eBay beginners, young and old alike, mainly in the UK and USA.
People who maybe want to just buy or sell things on eBay occasionally and don't have the time to wade through eBay school! This website is for people who just want the basic information fast, so they can get started.
What is the advantage of your website over others?
The information is high-quality and succinct - it tells you everything you need to know, without wasting your time. Many similar sites present incomplete information, or are too wordy.
This website gives you just what you need to know, broken down into a clear step-by-step approach, to guide you through the basics and get you up and running fast.
We use a combination of written content and video tutorials so web users can choose the format that suits their needs.
The site gives quick links to shipping information in the UK and the USA and guidance on creating cheat sheets to save time.
Tell us a story about this website.
Users are invited to ask questions - because it helps me to know what people really need.
For example someone recently asked about an issue on their eBay account because they didn't know they could contact eBay directly.
She'd been unable to figure out how on eBay's own website. This is exactly why I created the website.
Not only was I able to show her where to go but because Sandvox is so easy to use and fast to publish, I could quickly put it up on my website and share the information with other eBay users.
Sharing information is what it's all about!
Why did you use this Sandvox design?
I loved the clean, crisp, simple design and the colors echoed the bright primary colors of eBay without infringing any copyright laws.
What techniques did you use to build this website?
To display the font size and color that I wanted I used the following line of code in raw HTML:
<font size="2" face="verdana" color="white">text here</a>
When I clicked to 'validate' the HTML I got an error message saying this code is incompatible with HTML5 - but this IS what works. I tried changing the font with other codes and nothing else worked so I stuck with the original HTML and it seems to be working - so far!
