ism press books describe people's history, labor & freedom struggles, and radical feminist theories — to help people better understand systems of oppression and methods to free ourselves of them. BREAK THEIR HAUGHTY POWER tells the story of Joe Murphy, a roving young organizer for the IWW (Wobblies) in the 1920s. JUNIPERO SERRA, THE VATICAN, & ENSLAVEMENT THEOLOGY examines the Spanish Catholic missions in California, focusing on the missions' cultural impact on California Indians. LOVE AND POLITICS: RADICAL FEMINIST & LESBIAN THEORIES surveys a broad range of radical and lesbian feminist theory from the 1960s through the 1980s. LESBIAN ORIGINS presents an innovative lesbian feminist theory of women's oppression and women's liberation, based on cross-cultural data. ESTA PUENTE, MI ESPALDA, the Spanish translation and adaptation of "This Bridge Called My Back," contains personal narratives, poems and political essays by radical women of color. TAKE BACK YOUR POWER: A WORKING WOMAN'S RESPONSE TO SEXUAL HARASSMENT offers a practical guide to combating sexual harassment, based on the author's own experience and that of 100 women she interviewed. AFRICA IN STRUGGLE surveys Africa's liberation movements and counter-movements — from initial resistance against European colonial invasion through the major political upheavals since world war 2. REVOLUTION IN CENTRAL AMERICA gives a political history of modern revolutionary movements in El Salvador, Nicaragua and Guatemala — focusing on the Sandinista revolution and Salvadoran civil war.

The histories presented in ism press books run deeper than standard historical treatments: they explore the psychological, cultural, and sex-political dimensions that give life to human history.

It provides a solid and uncluttered color frame for our pages, both offsetting and harmonizing with the colors in our graphics.

To enhance the typographic design of "Masochism and Sainthood: Kateri Tekakwitha and Junípero Serra," I copied its text into an HTML editor called Taco HTML Edit. That made it easy for me to insert paragraph indents, regulate space between paragraphs, and insert anchor tags allow click-jumping from the superscript numbers in the text to the corresponding footnotes below. Once I had the page with its embedded graphic formatted just as I wanted, I copied it from Taco HTML Edit into my corresponding Sandvox page using Insert>Raw HTML.
