Describe your website.

My website is a personal website on which I organize my teaching material and lay my lessons out explicitly for my students. On the web pages students can download worksheets, see previous assignments, read the days objectives, etc. I also post pictures of student work, some family information, and so on.

Who is the target audience for your website?

My primary target are friends and students at GSIS in Korea (and formerly of Toledo in Washington. Students use it mostly (and parents) to check on work and catch up and collect useful information.

What is the advantage of your website over others?

This website contains detailed teaching lessons and specific project descriptions making it an excellent learning resource!

Tell us a story about this website.

I was sitting at my classroom desk one Saturday working on professional development (in this case developing curriculum goals and aligning units to them.) I needed a way to get the information collected and then make it possible for others (like my principal) to see to verify what I had done and make it useful to a wider audience. Feeling drowsy from the desk work I went to the restroom and grabbed a Popular Mechanics magazine to read on the "john." Inside the front cover was a price "$2.99/ month for a website" at 1and1.com. Holy cow! I ran back to my desk (after the appropriate paperwork) and verified it was true. Then I needed a program to build a website and found Sandvox on Apple's website. Ta-da! I was ready and had a basic frame up in one hour and inside the required time had both finished my work (on curriculum) and got it posted on a brand new website!

Why did you use this Sandvox design?

I chose this particular design because the color orange is very energizing and it comes in wide screen orientation (from Blue Ball) which looks great on my Macbook!

What techniques did you use to build this website?

This site is a straight build using the basics. One interesting feature is that it is easy to upload movies and I have done this to share material with students and with family in Canada and elsewhere in the world.
