Describe your website.

My website is a collection of quality online contests available to Canadians. I am online contest junkie and knew there would be a market for a directory of good contests aimed at Canadians that I had pre-screened. In short, if I don't think its worth my time to enter, I won't include it.

Who is the target audience for your website?

Well, contests addicts for sure - and Canadians and I rarely include contest available to the US, due mainly to the huge change to the chance of winning. People who like contests but hate going through junk to find good ones.

What is the advantage of your website over others?

I only made my site mainly because no one else would. Most contest sites are 99% ads and spam and they look like they were thrown up on by a video arcade on acid. I vow to only include quality ads and I do the work up front to find them so my readers will not have to. Well, I'm sold! You?

Tell us a story about this website.

I actually grabbed my domain to make a wiki of Canadians icons and such. However, once I truly grasped the work involved in such an undertaking I quickly changed my mind. I sat at computer thinking about what to do with the domain and, as I end up doing when on the computer for more than 15 minutes, starting looking for online contests. After scrolling through 5-10 pages of a competitors' site to find a single contest worth entering - well, I had an idea ...

Why did you use this Sandvox design?

K.I.S.S - keep it simple stupid. While initial reaction has been mixed - I simply decided that to go a simple as possible is what would make me stand out from the other contest sites. The site is still brand spanking new and time will tell but I am really happy with it and I really think the point will not be lost on visitors.

What techniques did you use to build this website?

I have customized all colours to be either black or white. That's it. I included HTML in the footers of the page to run Google ads there, something I learned from my other site (Canucklehead.ca) to include ads on pages that may not otherwise - photo pages for example. Except for that - not much tricks. Well, I did use a photo pagelet with a 'go to external URL' for my Twitter follow badge - will is likely not that groundbreaking. There is a LOT you can do - but for now this remains a pretty simply site.
