Describe your website.
I'm a novelist and ghost writer. The website features information pages about my books, both fiction and non-fiction, and has a contact page for publishers, fans and clients. There's also a blog, titled Blatherings, which features news, information, and insights into the writing and production of my books.
Who is the target audience for your website?
The site is aimed at anyone interested in any aspect of my work – whether it's fans looking for insights into my books, or information about forthcoming titles; or for publishers and authors seeking the services of a ghost writer.
Why did you use this Sandvox design?
As my stock in trade is writing, I needed a design that was elegant and clean, and allowed plenty of text, with lots of space for it to be displayed in; nothing that would end up cluttered if it had a lot of content. Also, blockquotes are important for the style I had in mind. I went with Hydrogen – with a little code injection to enhance the fonts and other elements, it met my needs exactly.
What techniques did you use to build this website?
I used code injection for two purposes: to customise the fonts and colours for text and headings; and to introduce a custom horizontal rules (a nice fading-ends hr snippet I found online).
