John Thorp used Sandvox to build this website for University of Western Ontario. He chose the “Smooth Dark” design for the site. People may want to visit the site if they are looking for philosophy, ancient greek philosophy, Aristotle.
Describe your website.
This is my personal professional website. I am a philosophy professor at the University of Western Ontario (aka Western University) in Canada. My main field of research is ancient Greek philosophy, especially Aristotle. I am also interested in philosophy of religion, theology, metaphysics, and especially the free will problem. I hold the Pleva Award for University Teaching, and the "ordre des palmes académiques", a decoration from France.
Who is the target audience for your website?
I think other philosophy professors and researchers will be interested in this site, along with potential graduate and postdoctoral students.
Tell us a story about this website.
In its previous (iWeb) incarnation, my website attracted an invitation from a distinguished publisher to take on the project of editing a major book. The website had shown that my interests were pretty wide-ranging. In the event, I did not take up this offer, but I was pleased to have had it.
Why did you use this Sandvox design?
I wanted something that was relatively conservative and restrained. I actually would have preferred something even more formal and classical than was available from Sandvox or its add-ons. But what I found will certainly serve.
What techniques did you use to build this website?
I didn't do anything especially clever. I just composed text and put in a few suggestive pictures.
