Describe your website.
We are a large, urban church with a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic congregation. Members come from around the island and visitors from around the world. We are involved with a variety of activities and try to keep everyone informed about what is happening on campus and what opportunities are there if they wish to become involved. We post sermons, photos, etc., for those who are unable to attend.
Who is the target audience for your website?
Our church ranges from keiki (children) to youth to kupuna (seniors) and everyone in between. Our activities range from Preschool to Senior Center.
What is the advantage of your website over others?
Our user base probably skews slightly older, so we made a concerted effort to make the website easy to read. We generally use 18-point Trebuchet as we find that reads very well on desktops, yet remains readable on laptops, netbooks, iPads and even iPhones. We tested the website on all the above and received positive comments from users.
Tell us a story about this website.
Our new website has only been online for a few months, but we have people listen to sermons or attend activities because they've learned about it from the website. We get very positive feedback about the overall look.
Why did you use this Sandvox design?
We knew this would be a large website, so we wanted sidebar navigation, to make everything as user-friendly as possible. We chose Trifecta from Blueball Design. Charlie Lockhart from Blueball helped me change the font size in the sidebar and helped with one problematic design element. The sidebar navigation gets favorable comments from users.
What techniques did you use to build this website?
We use many types of pages and pagelets. We have done only minor code modification as most things work well as is. Our website is always changing/updating, so we will probably discover even more things we can do with Sandvox. We have an online interactive calendar, links to several outside resources, and so on. We find that ImageWell (XtraLean Software) is a great help in creating and modifying our graphics.
