Describe your website.

The prime objective and intention of The Worshipful Company of Firefighters is to promote the development and advancement of the science, art and the practice of firefighting, fire prevention and life safety. It also encourages good professional behaviour and an exchange of information between Members of the Company and others who work in allied fields.

Who is the target audience for your website?

The website is the front end to a Charity (Worshipful Company of Firefighters) in the UK. The members of the Charity need something that will help promote their causes to the public and to be of assistance to the membership. The complete site consists of 3 parts a public, membership and administration section. Each having there own specific areas.

Tell us a story about this website.

As with all sites that have an auto creation you have to be careful to keep an eye on the resulting pages. Whist putting together a test page for a PayPal e-commerce routine I forgot to mark it as a draft and published it to find that the next day I had sold an item. This confirmed that the system was working and luckily I was using some correct prices in the test.

Why did you use this Sandvox design?

I was looking for a simple design where it would be easy to replace the banner image with my own. The ability to turn the side bar on or off was also a deciding factor in this choice.

What techniques did you use to build this website?

The site uses a number of PHP routines which are simply integrated through RAW HTML. This is great to make use of PHP and MySQL to change the look and feel of the page in a few lines of code, most of which can be found as examples on the net.
